Brain Tumour AI Research Initiative

The answer is in the room.
VERA helps find it.

A research tool that holds the entire indexed brain tumour literature, forgets nothing, cites everything, and tells you honestly when the answer is not there.

Why VERA exists

The human memory problem

There are over 50,000 published papers on glioblastoma alone. A leading neuro-oncologist who has spent 20 years in the field has read, at most, a fraction of these with genuine recall. The rest exist in journals, databases, and filing systems — correct, citable, potentially critical — and effectively invisible.

"No group of consultants, however experienced, can recall even a small percentage of the papers written on this subject. VERA doesn't replace what they know. It fills in what they cannot be expected to remember."

VERA was built by a brain tumour patient who is also an IT professional. It began with a simple observation: the answer is in the room. But where do you start to look?

The core insight

Humans provide the intelligence.
VERA provides the memory.

VERA is not a replacement for human expertise. It is not a diagnostic tool. It is a research librarian that has read everything in the building and forgets nothing.

Complete corpus recall

Holds the entire indexed literature simultaneously — no forgetting, no recency bias. Retrieves across thousands of papers for any query.

Citation integrity

Every factual claim is attributed to its source — author, year, journal, and a clickable link directly to the paper. Uncited claims are not permitted by design.

Radical honesty

VERA operates in three clearly defined confidence states. When the evidence is absent, it says so. A system that tells you when it does not know is more valuable than one that guesses.

Closed corpus by design

Every answer is traceable to an indexed peer-reviewed paper. VERA never supplements from general training data — the constraint is the differentiator.

The honesty policy

Three states. No speculation.

The most important design decision in VERA is not technical. Researchers and clinicians cannot afford confident errors.

Confidence What VERA does
● High Multiple relevant papers retrieved. Answers with full citations. Synthesises clearly.
● Partial Related material retrieved but weak match. States this explicitly. Flags evidence as indirect.
● None No relevant material found. States clearly: this question cannot be answered from the current knowledge base. Full stop. No speculation.

About the project

Built by a patient, for the community.

VERA is a non-profit, open source legacy project. It is not commercially motivated. The code is open. The methodology is documented. The architecture is extensible.

"Real information, not Google. Verified evidence, not Barry Know It All."

The current prototype spans 1977–2026 and covers the full brain tumour knowledge base — from GBM and paediatric tumours through to low-grade gliomas and the broader neuro-oncology landscape. The corpus currently indexes 4,465 peer-reviewed sources across approx 20 million words.

Important notice

VERA is a research prototype.

VERA is an early-stage proof of concept built for research and demonstration purposes. It is not a medical device, not a diagnostic tool, and must not be used to inform clinical decisions or patient care. All responses are drawn from indexed peer-reviewed literature and are provided for research exploration only.

If you are a patient seeking medical advice, please consult a qualified healthcare professional. VERA is not a substitute for clinical judgement.
